What Emotion Are You Feeling Now?

Emotions are undercurrents running in our bodies. Many times emotions sit underneath thoughts, physical symptoms, behaviors and actions. Research indicates we are feeling at least one emotion 90% of the time during the day. Some research also shows many people (upwards of 50%) with chronic pain and other medically unexplained physical symptoms have what’s called alexithymia. Alexithymia literally means ‘no words for emotions’. People with alexithymia have difficulty identifying, describing, and expressing their emotions. Then there are other people who have learned to hide (suppress or repress) their emotions. Both of these emotional styles can lead to emotions coming out more physically in the body through symptoms.
Emotions are one of the most important categories to look at in those with chronic pain and chronic health ailments. Here is a video I posted recently about emotions and learning how to get in touch with them more frequently, which will can help regulate both emotions and physical symptoms.
