These 2 Pathways Determine How You Feel
I’ve spoke about these 2 branches of the nervous system many times. And the more I think about it, it keeps making more sense and simplifies down what can be a complex process in the brain. Stress from the brain causes neuroplastic symptoms in the body. We know that. How does that filter down into the body? Well the two branches of the autonomic nervous system carry those stress signals into the body which form physical symptoms of stress.
Think fight/flight and freeze as being polar opposites in nervous system pathway activation. One being high sympathetic and the other being over-activated parasympathetic. Both are coming from stress reactions in the brain. But the presentations of how they feel in the body can be vastly different if it’s fight/flight or freeze. That’s because those 2 branches of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) have polar opposite effects.
I talk today about some of this and how we can determine where your ANS is any given moment and also where we want to go in regards to this system to feel better. Reach out if you want or need help with your nervous system in relation to neuroplastic symptoms.
